The Warren Miller Performing Arts Center presents extraordinary shows, every season. Under the Founding Director, John Zirkle’s guidance, artists from around the world bring music, performance, and storytelling to life, while inventive programs, pianos on snow, pop-up stages at farmers markets, transform Big Sky into a place where the magic of the arts feels as expansive and thrilling as the Montana sky.

Big Sky is one of the most exciting ski resort communities in the West. We’re proud of accolades like Expedia’s Top Trending Travel Destination and SKI magazines number one ski resort in the West. Visitors come for incredible skiing, but it’s also home to a small, vibrant community of about 3,500 full-time residents, an amazing seasonal workforce, and one of the best public schools in Montana. At the heart of it all is the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center.

We named the theater after Warren Miller because he bridged skiing culture and the arts. Starting in 1949, Warren made annual ski films and toured them around the country, sharing stories about the mountains and the people who love them. When the Big Sky School District needed a theater, we saw an opportunity to do something bigger: to create a performing arts center for both students and the wider community. From day one, the mission has been to balance a strong arts program for the school while bringing unforgettable shows to residents and visitors.

The Warren Miller Performing Arts Center seats 280, and there’s not a bad seat in the house. Sight lines are excellent, the acoustics are superb, and every show feels intimate, like experiencing something remarkable with a few hundred friends rather than thousands of strangers. We present artists from around the world, like Vanessa Williams, Chris Thile, Mike Birbiglia, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Kronos Quartet, and many more. From comedy to music, dance, magic, and theater, our programming reflects the creativity and adventurous spirit of Yellowstone Country.

We’ve even taken the arts outdoors. In winter, we produce a unique concert experience with a nine-foot Steinway piano on a groomed cross-country ski course, where audiences ski, snowshoe, or fat-bike around while listening to a live performance with headphones while moving through the landscape. It’s the kind of inventive, audacious experience Warren Miller would have loved.

After a day on the slopes in the winter, or a sunny hike in the summer, there’s more to explore–new galleries, public art, local artisans, live music, and unique dining in the town center.
