In the late 1800s, as settlers established new lives in the Rendezvous Region, new churches were also born. St. Alphonsus Church started in 1884 and was a promising mission served by priests from nearby Olga. Twice a month mass was held in a hall over a local watering hole and later moved to a schoolhouse.

After its humble beginnings, the growing Catholic community, led by Father Richlin, constructed a wood-framed church. The total cost of the project was $1600, which was raised through the cooperation and sacrifices of the congregation. It was later used as a parish hall until it was torn down in 1920.

The brick church known today as St. Alphonsus was built in 1903 with the gymnasium added in 1924. While there have been many renovations over the years, the faithful heart of St. Alphonsus remains, dedicated to the Catholic faith and the community of Langdon.
