1039 - Hell Creek Recreation Area

Fort Peck Lake is the largest manmade lake in Montana, formed by the Fort Peck Dam on the Missouri River. Its massive size, nearly 134 miles long with 1,520 miles of shoreline, is almost incomprehensible. A lake that size is sure to provide many opportunities for recreation. One such spot is Hell Creek Recreation Area, a perfect starting point for year-round fun!
Located on the Hell Creek Arm of Fort Peck Lake, this park has so much to offer, providing facilities for most water sports, as well as excellent walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass fishing. Bring your tent or camper and stay a few nights, roasting s'mores over a campfire, riding your bike to the playground, and exploring the almost 340 acres. Hell Creek also serves as a launching point for boat camping in the wild and scenic Missouri Breaks, captivating scenery consisting of rock outcroppings, steep bluffs, and grassy plains around the Missouri River.
When the sun goes down, turn off your camping lanterns and look to the skies. The recreation area is a great place for star gazers as it is far away from light pollution. From here, it’s easy to see why the great state of Montana is called Big Sky Country.
