If you are ready to embrace the history of northeast Montana, the Valley County Pioneer Museum is the place to be! Located in Glasgow, Montana, the museum is filled with history waiting for you to discover.

You can start with the country’s largest Assiniboine collection, detailing the lives of the Native American people who first called this region home, during a time when massive buffalo herds roamed. They often spent their summers moving camp in search of the herds, sleeping in teepees under the stars. The Assiniboine teepee at Valley County Pioneer Museum is part of the Joshua Wetsit Collection and is one of the last remaining elk hide teepees in existence. Besides the artifacts of past Indian cultures displayed here, fossilized remains of teepee rings and buffalo jumps also exist nearby.

A museum in Montana is really not complete without an exhibit on Lewis & Clark whose iconic expedition was very important to the region and ushered in the arrival of fur trappers and traders to the west. Then came the railroad and agriculture, followed by the creation of the Fort Peck Dam, all of which are on display at the Valley County Pioneer Museum. The museum also has extensive genealogical archives, a vast library filled with many books about Montana and Valley County, and even stories from the Titanic! And what better place to learn about cowboys and wildlife than right here in the Old West?

Where else in Montana can you roam through a 1924 catalog home, tour an old school room, inspect various pieces of old-time machinery, and peek in store fronts from 1915 Valley County? There’s that and so much more at the Valley County Museum!
