When the last of the snow has melted and the temperatures start to climb, it’s time to dust off the drivers and putters and hit the links at the Black Sands Golf Course in Beulah. Located on the south side of scenic Lake Sakakawea, in the heart of North Dakota’s energy country, the public course boasts 9-holes with a full service pro shop, Trackman 4 Golf Simulator, and clubhouse. If you have more time on your hands, you can play the course twice. It would measure 6,226 yards and play to a par 70.
Black Sands Golf Club, formerly known as Beulah Municipal Golf Course, has been in operation since 1953 and takes its name from the black coal slag bunkers that dot the landscape here in coal country, even on the course! Along with the bunkers, amateur and expert golfers alike will find water hazards and elevation changes on the rolling course.
Whether you need a break from the summer heat or are experiencing a rain delay, the Albatross Bar and Restaurant is ready to welcome you! From burgers to chicken wings and lemonade to an ice cold beer, there’s something for everyone at the Albatross.
Black Sands Golf Club also has a special distinction. It is one of twenty golf courses in North Dakota on the Lewis and Clark Golf Trail, a gateway to golf, history, and adventure in the state. The trail features more than 200 holes along the path blazed by Lewis and Clark on their famed expedition across North Dakota’s pristine landscape. If you want to walk in the footsteps of the legendary explorers, be sure to visit the nearby Knife River Indian Villages, another stop on the Talking Trail.
