This sculpture is titled, Windlace, and was created in the Spring of 1987 and was dedicated to the city of Sterling by Bradford Rhea. The sculpture was commissioned by a women’s coalition group. It represents the courage, grace and evolution of women in society in more recent decades. Near the bottom the first face remains relatively faceless, without many details, but as the figures spiral around, each is more detailed, until the last is intricately detailed and wearing a lace necklace.
Bradford also wrote a poem that goes with the sculpture:
Against a swirling breeze
imprison souls ascend;
rising from their knees,
in a vision they transcend.
