152 - Canada Goose Trail

Just outside the west city limits of Kenmare is the Canada Goose Trail. The trail exits the Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge on the eastern side of the Upper Des Lacs Lake, on the west side of US Highway 52.
The Canada Goose Trail offers spectacular views of the Des Lacs River and surrounding National Refuge. There are many opportunities for bird watching along the trail, including migratory birds such as ducks, geese, swans, grebes, and shorebirds. Keep your eyes peeled for white-tailed deer and pheasants, though they are quite abundant near this trail and shouldn’t be hard to find! Depending on when you explore the trail,, you may even spot wildflowers, flowing in the breeze.
The Canada Goose Trail sits on an old roadbed, covered with grass after years of non-motorized traffic. It is opened to hiking, bicycling, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing…a perfect trail to appreciate this slice of Ward County.
