The Niobe Hall was moved from Niobe, North Dakota to the Pioneer Village in Kenmare in 2006. Originally erected in 1907, it stood on Main Street in the newly platted town of Niobe and served as the Elmdale township hall. Some of the features are authentic to the building, including the maple floorboards, the pews, and the jail. The original postal counter with the post office boxes from Niobe is also located here. The stage area was used for plays or by orchestras when dances were held in the hall. The most renowned musician to play in the Niobe Hall was Lawrence Welk in the early years of his career. This building has an old time general store display but the building contents are better described as eclectic. You will see the Sears and Roebuck horse drawn buggy, and an old time sleigh cutter as well as a high-wheel bicycle, collection of memorabilia of the Modern Woodmen of America and so much more. Recently beautiful stained glass windows from Bethlehem Lutheran and Hope Lutheran Churches were added to the display. Other exhibits include: a Taylor Drug Store ice cream collection; Elgin coffee grinder and bean bin from the Tolley General Store; high school memorabilia; and then Eklund gun collection. The Niobe jail has a resident inmate that is always sleeping. This building also has a wood box made from an inmate in the North Dakota State Penitentiary that was sentenced to prison after murdering his wife. The specifics are left out to see if it entices you to visit. The Niobe Hall is a museum with a little bit of everything!
