1340 - Remembered: Twilight Theatre

For nearly a century, the Twilight Theatre served as a cornerstone of entertainment and culture in Greensburg. It was the place where friends gathered, families made memories, and stories came to life on the big screen. That tradition came to an abrupt halt in May 2007 when an EF5 tornado destroyed most of the town, including the historic theatre. For years after, its absence stood as a powerful reminder of both the community’s loss and its determination to rebuild.
In April 2015, that determination took shape when the doors of the new Twilight Theatre opened to the public. Designed as a modern performance and film venue, the state-of-the-art facility features advanced projection, sound, and lighting systems, along with one of the largest screens between Wichita and Denver.
The new theatre was imagined to be more than just a movie house. It serves as a multi-use space where films, concerts, performances, and school programs share the same stage. Many of the seat backs inside bear the engraved names of donors who supported the rebuilding, turning every performance into a quiet tribute to the people of Greensburg and the countless others who believed in its revival. Their generosity helped transform a vision into reality.
The rebirth of the Twilight Theatre stands as both a continuation of its legacy and a lasting symbol of Greensburg’s resilience. From its earliest days as a hometown cinema to its present role as a modern center for the arts, the Twilight continues to reflect the spirit of community and shared purpose that defines Greensburg today.
