The 1938 Mona Coupe 110 Special was built for racing, so, you’ve got it, they’re all about speed. Only 7 were ever built though they were one of the most successful racers in aerobatic airplanes in the 30’s and 40’s. They were commonly referred to as “The Clipped-Wing Mona Coupe.”

This particular airplane, flown by 3 different pilots, won 3 events in the 1939 Miami National Air Races; one of those winning pilots was a woman. After the races, this 110 Special was purchased by a Cuban man who spent 20 years campaigning and showing it until Fidel Castro became dictator. Then, the owner escaped to Florida and sold it to help get a new start in the U.S.
