Able to perform aerobatics and fly at a speed of 160 miles per hour, the North American T-6 Texan prepared pilots for solo flights in higher-horsepower fighters. The aircraft, which the United States and British Commonwealth employed to train pilots during World War II, came equipped with two cockpits so that an instructor could sit in the back and guide their student, who sat in front operating the aircraft. T-6 Texans were also utilized for weapon training; they could carry lighter loads of bombs as well as 30 caliber guns which the pilots used to practice. In regard to military training, consider it a jack of all trades. It sailed the skies for sixty years, taking its first flight in 1935 and retiring in 1995.
