The F106 Delta Dart holds the world record for single engine airplane speed at 1,525 miles an hour. It was built as an interceptor and designed to carry missiles, which it can drop and shoot in under two seconds. One of the missiles it carried was a genie nuclear rocket, designed to fire at the Russian Horde in case of attack over the North Pole. Along with the T33 and F15, it was part of the Spitten Kitten 5th fighter interceptor group and based at the Minot Air Base from 1960-1985.
