Minnesota native Ken Dahlberg shared this P51D Mustang, named “Little Horse,” with Lieutenant Charles Koening, after his own plane, “Shay-lay-lee,” was shot down. During Dahlberg’s military career, he was shot down three times; twice he escaped, once dressed as a woman riding a bicycle. On the last occasion, he was captured by Nazi Patrol and held as a Prisoner of War. Previously, he shot down 15 airplanes and earned his status as a WWII ace
He was once photographed flying in formation alongside Noble Peterson, a North Dakota pilot who also flew a P51D Mustang. You can learn more about Peterson and view his plane, Dakota Kid 2 at the Dakota Air Territory Museum in Minot, North Dakota.
