My name is Dennis Houle. I am a Native American artist. I have been painting professionally for approximately 42 years. I refer to myself as a universal artist because I am not stuck on one genre or style of art. I love to paint everything and anything I see or that compels me to capture an emotion. The buffalo painting in the Alley 5.5 Project is a traditional style that Native Americans did historically and continue to paint in this style today. This one in particular reflects the Buffalo Nation. I incorporated the American flag into the painting to reflect the modern times and how currency is associated with hunting the buffalo for food, shelter, and clothing. I love this painting because it is a reminder for the future generations to recognize the importance of being a good provider and living a life that requires strength, leadership, and direction.
