651 - Peter Pomonis - Scared Worm

My name is Peter Pomonis. I would consider myself an amateur artist. I definitely don’t do it professionally. But this is my piece. It’s untitled. A fishing pole with a worm at the end, I guess you could call it. This was inspired by my childhood here in Bismarck. Fishing and hunting are pretty common pastimes, so it’s something I grew up doing with my dad and my older brother. I always remember looking into tackle boxes and thinking lures and stuff were kind of artwork themselves, so I’ve always liked drawing fishing lures and fishing equipment. This sort of became my representation of that.
I was considering putting something else at the end of the hook. Maybe a big colorful fish, or an old boot, something like that. But when I saw the meadowlark to the immediate left of the pillar, I thought it would be kind of funny to do a worm and actually have a worm looking down at the meadowlark, a little bit scared that the meadowlark was going to come get it. I decided on the worm. I think it was the right choice and am happy with how it turned out.
