1190 - Drive-in Theatre

As dusk approaches during the summer months in Alliance, Nebraska, there is a very special place to be, the Sandhills Drive-In Theatre. As one of the few remaining drive-ins left in the state of Nebraska, it provides a charming throwback to a bygone era while delivering the magic of outdoor movie viewing. The Sandhills Drive-In originally opened in 1994, with “Jurassic Park” playing on the big screen. For over twenty years, the drive-in offered a seasonal nostalgic and unique cinematic experience. While the theatre closed in 2016, it wouldn’t stay dark for long. Three years later, the Sandhills reopened under new ownership who brought the silver screen back to life, showing second-run movies in a variety of genres.
As you approach the Sandhills Drive-In, the rows of parked cars under the open sky set the stage for a classic movie night. Whether showing the latest releases or timeless classics, moviegoers take in the show from the comfort of their own vehicles. With the convenience of tuning into the audio through your car’s FM radio, the Sandhills Drive-In experience adds a sense of novelty and intimacy as friends and families gather together under the stars.
Of course, a movie isn’t complete without a trip to the concession stand! Here, visitors can indulge in classic movie snacks like popcorn, candy, and sodas, enhancing the overall nostalgic feeling of the experience. With its unique blend of cinematic entertainment and the charm of the great outdoors, the Sandhills Drive-In Theatre promises an unforgettable experience.
