Dobby’s Frontier Town in Alliance, Nebraska, offers a nostalgic journey into the Old West, capturing the spirit of long ago. Step back in time as you wander through this charming frontier town, complete with rustic wooden buildings, dusty pathways, and a palpable sense of the Wild West where you can practically hear the sounds from the frontier: the clanging on the anvil in the blacksmith shop, the hum of the printing press, the nickering of horses, and merriment echoing from the saloon.

The story of Dobby’s Frontier Town began decades ago, as one man’s quest to save pieces of history that were vanishing across the Nebraska Sandhills. Kenneth “Dobby” Lee embarked on a personal journey to save buildings from a bygone era, allowing visitors to access and appreciate the rich history of Western Nebraska. As you wander through town, you will come face-to-face with restored buildings, including a one-room school house from 1889 and a German Evangelical Immanuel Lutheran Church from 1912. Imagine purchasing fabric for a new Sunday dress from the General Store or dropping by the post office to mail a letter. At Dobby’s Frontier Town, you can also visit a hay bale house, which were common throughout the Sandhills because wood was hard to come by. Inside, you’ll see an icebox, kerosene lanterns, a treadle sewing machine, a chair with a chamber pot, and many other treasures. In total, there are 27 buildings to explore, all offering you a chance to travel back in time.

The town’s attention to detail is evident in its collection of artifacts, antiques, and carefully recreated historical settings, offering an educational experience for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re fascinated by tales of the Old West or simply seeking an enjoyable outing, Dobby’s Frontier Town invites you to dive into the rich tapestry of frontier life in and around Alliance, Nebraska.
